Health + the places that shape our lives

Healthier environments.
Healthier lives.

We advance healthier places to live, learn, work, and gather through research, education, demonstration, and partnership.

Foundation for Healthy Environments is being organized as a national nonprofit initiative. Incorporation jurisdiction and federal tax-exempt filing are in progress; no donation solicitation is active.

About the Foundation

Human health is shaped by the environments around us.

Foundation for Healthy Environments connects evidence with practical action. Our work focuses on the built and community environments where people spend their lives—and on the conditions that can make those places healthier, safer, more resilient, and more supportive of well-being.

Our scope is national, with programs designed to learn from real projects, measure outcomes, and share what works.

Flagship initiative

Healthy Homes Initiative

Healthy Homes looks beyond energy efficiency or aesthetics alone. The initiative explores the whole-home conditions that affect people: indoor environmental quality, moisture management, ventilation and filtration, thermal comfort, resilience, safer materials, accessibility, durability, and health-informed design and construction.

ResearchTranslate evidence into practical standards and decisions.
DemonstrationUse real projects and living labs to test and improve approaches.
EducationMake healthier-building knowledge understandable and useful.
PartnershipConnect housing, health, research, community, and industry.

Healthy Homes Access™ is the Initiative’s working access-and-support sub-program, focused on making healthier, higher-performing housing more attainable for qualified people who may not otherwise be able to afford the full market cost or premium.

Research & resources

Evidence should travel.

We intend to turn research, field learning, and project data into resources that can be understood, tested, improved, and reused by communities, practitioners, partners, and decision-makers.

Partnerships

Better environments require many kinds of expertise.

We welcome conversations with researchers, health organizations, housing and community groups, public agencies, educators, builders, designers, funders, and others working toward healthier environments.
